The Joy of Felted Crochet
Before discovering felted crochet I was plagued by repetitive stress injuries causing me significant pain in my wrist and shoulder. In an effort to address the problem I tried reducing the tension by crocheting with larger hooks and looser stitches, but I was disappointed with the stringy, often uneven, results. Exasperated, one day I threw a project into the washing machine. After rescuing it from being scalded, agitated and spun, I saw a transformation that inspired me to experiment with felted crochet, and I became hooked!
For me the discovery of felted crochet was a perfect ergonomic solution. I was no longer sidelined with stress injuries. I was able to fulfill my design aspirations by creating more structured projects. And, most exhilarating of all, I loved “the moment of truth” when the tortured clump was removed from the washing machine and coaxed into shape. Voila!
My hats, bags and accessories are one of a kind. I don’t work with a pattern. I simply visualize the project and improvise as I go. I love color and form.
